Football: St. Xavier/Colerain Headline Cincinnati Football Event
For the last 11 years in the Cincinnati-area, the prep football season has been kicked off by the Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown. Today, Tom Gamble (organizer of event) will announce the full schedule for the opening week showdown. While the full schedule, dates, and times haven't been released yet - one thing is certain: St. Xavier vs. Colerain. The two teams have combined for three of the last four state championships and it will be their fifth meeting (including playoffs) since the 2005 season. The Enquirer
Softball: Elmwood's Brittany Dauterman
For three seasons Elmwood softball standout Brittany Dauterman shared her team's pitching duties with Kayla Chapman. Now that Chapman has been graduated for almost a year, Dauterman has been left to carry the pitching duties alone. Dauterman has a 0.40 ERA with 235 strike outs in 104 innings while posting a 15-0 record. The senior will pitch for the University of Findlay next spring. Toledo Blade
Softball: LaGrange Keystone Junior Kara Dill
Kara Dill, a standout junior shortstop/pitcher ro Keystone, doesn't have much time for anything else besides school, softball, and sleep. Dill is being recruited by some of college softball's premier Division I programs. At the same time, she's on track to earn both her high school degree and an associate degree from Lorain Community College in June 2009. Dill began the week hitting .591 and, as the second pitcher to teammate Lauren Wagner, has a 5-1 record for the Wildcats (18-4). Plain Dealer
Baseball: Chilicothe Edges Athens
Yesterday in Southeastern Ohio Athletic League play, Chilicothe defeated Athens 6-5. This was one game in the conference's Day of Champions as all 10 SEOAL teams were in action. Cody Speakman, who took over for Chillicothe starter Aaron Dixon in the fourth inning, picked up the victory. There were three lead changes and three ties during the contest. Athens Messenger
Baseball: Northwest Knocks off Tuslaw
Northwest scored five runs over the last three innings to break a deadlock with home-standing Tuslaw and pull out a 7-3 victory on Wednesday afternoon. Andrew McAvinew and Donnie Macko each collected two hits for Northwest. Tuslaw fell to 10-10 with the loss. Northwest is now 9-12. The Independent
