Track and Field: Eastlake North's Brian Carrigg helps team share meet title
The Premier Athletic Conference meet at Chardon came down to a gutsy performance by North's Brian Carrigg. Though he was still recovering from a sprained ankle from a couple weeks ago, Carrigg won the 400 and was the anchor of North's winning 4x400 relay team. North shared the PAC meet with Willougbhy South and it was the Ranger's first meet title since 2002. The News-Herald
Track and Field:: Rival Hurdlers Keep Eachother Motivated
Miamisburg's Michael Willey picked up four wins in the divisional portion of the Greater Western Ohio Conference track meet on Wednesday. On Friday, he will go head-to-head with Sidney's Jordan Goffena in the 110- and 300-metter hurdles. Willey (14.86 in the 110 and 38.59 in the 300) won the GWOC North hurdles titles while Goffena (14.77 in the 110 and 38.70 in the 300) did the same in the South. Dayton Daily News
Baseball: Pope's homer lifts Rockets
Tony Pope hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning Wednesday to lead the Lowellville High baseball team to a 5-3 Division IV tournament victory over Columbiana at Cene Park. Lowellville (18-6) will meet the winner of the McDonald-Jackson-Milton game in a district semifinal Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. at Cene Park. In other tournament action, Springfield defeated Leetonia, Ursuline beat Grand Valley, and East Palestine run-ruled United. The Vindicator
Baseball: Gallia Academy Knocks out Athens
Gallia Academy utilized a pair of two-run innings and a strong pitching performance by Jeff Golden to defeat Athens 5-1 in a Division II baseball sectional tournament game at Memorial Field on Tuesday. The victory advances the Blue Devils to the sectional finals for the third straight year. Golden was a big key for the Blue Devils as he went the distance on the mound and scattered six hits while striking out nine, walking three and hitting one. Athens Messenger
Tennis: Freshman Looking Impressive in Toledo
Senior Jeff Brown of Toledo Waite attempted to become the first public school tennis player to win the No .1 singles at the City League Tournament. In the finals, a freshman (St. John's Jesuit freshman Ryan Jorgensen) avenged an earlier loss to defeat Brown, 6-1, 6-4 in the title match. Another freshman making noise is Ottawa Hills freshman Evan Bechtel. Bechtel has a16-2 record this season at No. 1 singles. Brown, Jorgensen, Bechtel, and the rest of the area are getting things in gear for the sectionals scheduled to get under way today. The Blade
