Girls Basketball: Two Cincinnati Teams in Final USA Today Poll
Cincinnati Mount Notre Dame and Lakota West both finished in USA Today's Super 25 girls basketball poll. Division I state champion Mount Notre Dame finished at No. 18 and the Division I runner up, Lakota West, finished at No. 25. The Enquirer
Track and Field: Stark County Season Begins
The Tuslaw boys and girls opened up Principal Athletic Conference action with some comfortable victories over Canton Timken. The boys team prevailed 91-37 over the Trojans, while the girls were able to rack up an 89-39 victory. The Massillon Washington track team was victorious in both the boys (71-66) and girls (97-43) meets. Federal League foes Perry and Lake split their meet as the Perry girls (94-43) and Lake boys (70-67) came out on top. Canton South won both the boys and girls meets over Canal Fulton Northwest and the Dalton Bulldogs had a sweep over Garaway. The Independent
Conference Shakeups in Northeast Ohio
League movement has been contagious recently in Lake, Geauga, and Ashtabula counties as Painesville Harvey, Grand Valley, and Ledgemenont all decided to leave their respective conferences. Harvey left the Northeastern Conference after 20 years for the Chagrin Valley Conference, a huge small-school league with three divisions. Grand Valley left the CVC and Ledgemont left the Eastern Suburban Conference to join the Northeast Athletic Conference. Harvey has been fiercely loyal to the league with which it filed a discrimination lawsuit just to join back in 1987. With Harvey joining and Grand Valley departing, the CVC maintiang their 18-team conference that is broken up into three six-team divisions. The News-Herald
Basketball: Dayton Carroll Searching for Coach
Carroll is still searching for a boys varsity basketball coach. One coach the Patriots looked at was the successful girls basketball coach at Fairmont - Tim Cogan. He had accepted the position at one point before later declining the position. Herman Burger is out after 14 seasons as the Patriots boys coach. Despite Cogan being a 1987 Carroll graduate, he decided to remain in his current position at Farmont. Dayton Daily News
Boys Basketball: Wadsworth Coach won't Return
Scott Callaghan was told by school officials on Friday that his position as boys varsity head coach will no longer be his. Callaghan is a 1987 Wadsworth graduate. The Grizzlies were 21-26 in two years under Callaghan, who was 5-2 in postseason play. Before coaching the boys, Callaghan was the coach Wadsworth's girls team for five years (100-15) before resigning in 2005. The Plain Dealer
