Baseball: CHCA Wins 5th Straight MVC

Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy has been a scoring machine in 2008, scoring double digit runs in 15 of their 19 games this season. Their 12-1 victory over North College Hill solidifed another Miami Valley Conference Scarlet Division championship. It is their fifth straight MVC title and it was CHCA's 11th win by 10 or more runs. Junior first baseman Drake Browne was leading the team with a .571 average and three home runs going into the game. Sophomore left fielder Jacob Schomaker was hitting .556 and the team as a whole is hitting .434. The Enquirer


Baseball: Hopewell-Loudon Remains Undefeated in MAL

Hopewell-Loudon picked up a huge 8-1 win over Freemont St. Joe and their ace, junior Eric Gray. At 14-4 overall and 4-0 in the Midland Athletic League, Hopewell-Loudon is the league's lone unbeaten squad. Tyler Browns (5-0) picked up the victory for the Chieftans as he lowerd his ERA to 1.53. Baseball: Home Run Derby Starts Tonight

The Lake County Captains (minor league team of the Cleveland Indians) are pairing up with The News-Herald to deliver a home run derby competition among teams in and around Eastlake, the home of the Captains. The event will include players from 20 schools in Lake, Geauga and eastern Cuyahoga counties. Hitters from Fairport, Gilmour, Kirtland and West Geauga will kick off the event tonight following the Captains' home game against Greensboro. Among the athletes competing tonight are Gilmour junior Billy Urban, Kirtland senior Anthony Comella, Fairport senior Tim Knotts, and West Geauga senior Robbie LaRiccia. The News-Herald


Baseball: Lima Shawnee Stops Findlay

Lima Shawnee eventually got to Findlay's Alex Henry, a freshman right-hander, in an 8-3 non-league win over the Trojans at Flag City Memorial Field. David Gerad and Garrett Black had three hits each and Cody Roberts had two for Lima Shawnee, 17-3 overall and tied for the lead (5-0) in the Western Buckeye League. Jacob Kuhlman had two hits, Danny Bowersox tripled and drove in a run and Drew Mowery had 2 RBI for Findlay (10-4). The Courier


Baseball: Newark Catholic Defeats Heath

Newark Catholic's Bo Kreager hit two home runs on Monday to lead the Green Wave to a 4-1 Mid-State League-Ohio Division victory at Dave Klontz Field. It was the Bulldogs' first loss in the MSL-Ohio and they fell to 18-2 overall and 9-1 in the league. The Green Wave improved to 12-3, 7-3. Newark Catholic's Garrett Clark got the win.
