Football: Massillon Names New Head Coach

The Massillon Tigers have a new football coach. After weeks of speculation that former Nordonia coach Jason Hall would be named the next Tiger coach, it finally became official at a special meeting of the Board of Education last night. Hall becomes the 32nd head coach in Massillon's history as he replaces Tom Stacy, who departed in February to become the head coach of Green High School. Massillon superintendent Fred Blosser made the recommendation to the board, which approved it 5-0. Massillon will be Hall's fourth team since 2002. The Mount Union All-American guided two programs (Ravenna Southeast and Lyndhurst Brush) to their first playoff appearance. In Hall's only season at Nordonia, he guided the Knights to a 10-2 record. Softball: Experienced Harrison Routs Young Kings

The Harrison Wildcats went on the road to defeat Kings 10-1 yesterday. Harrisson took advantage of five Knights errors to pour on the offense. Senior left fielder Michelle Stenger went 2-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI, while senior second baseman Lauren Kreinest drove in three runs with a home run and a sacrifice fly and junior catcher Lacey Sowders had a two-run triple and scored three runs to lead Harrison, which improved to 8-2 overall. Hockey: Mentor Lets Coach Go

After the most succesful playoff run in Mentor's hockey history, head coach Mike Tinik will not return. After guiding the Cardinals to their biggest win in their program's history (a district semi-final win over University), Tinik's contract was not renewed according to district spokesman Justin Maynor. Mentor hockey booster club president John Blomstrom said Tinik was informed of his non-renewal in a meeting Wednesday morning with Mentor principal Joe Spiccia and athletic director Jeff Cassella. Mentor finished 17-12-1 after going 14-40 the previous two seasons. The News-Herald
