St. Edward basketball coach Eric Flannery, fresh off taking the Eagles to the Division I state final, has been named an assistant coach for the Jordan Brand Classic game. The game, featuring some of the nation's premier high school seniors, will be played on April 19 at Madison Square Garden in New York and televised live by ESPN2. Flannery's graduating forward Delvon Roe was invited to the game, but he is unable to play after an injury that kept Roe out for nearly the entire season. The Plain Dealer

Track: Toledo Rogers Junior has Eyes on Olympics
Erik Kynard, a junior at Rogers High School in Toledo, has his eyes on the Division I state meet as well as the Olympics. The Rogers junior wants to stake claim on a state high jump title that has eluded him the last two springs. During the indoor track season, Kynard jumped a personal record jump of 7 feet, 3¾ inches. Only six others in the country -- amateur and professional -- have jumped higher this year. Jesse Williams, who jumps for Nike, owns the top mark this season by clearing 7-7¼. Kynard is the only one of the group still in high school. The Toledo Blade
Track: Tuslaw's Melissa Wohlheter pulls rare double
Melissa Wohlheter is one of the few athletes that attempt to run back-to-back races at track meets. Shortly after finishing the 400-meter race she gets ready to run the 300-meter hurdles. She holds school records in both events and was an All-Ohioan in the 300 hurdles at last year's state meet. The hurdles are Wohlheter's specialty, but she is becoming one of the top 400-meter runners in Stark County. Wohlheter finished sixth in the 300 hurdles in her first state appearance last season.
