Avery is most outstanding in Division I

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Greg Avery, who did just about everything in leading Newark to its first state championship in 65 years, is the most outstanding player on the 2008 Associated Press Division I all-tournament team.

Avery, who matched a career high with 33 points in a 65-52 win over Lakewood St. Edward in the finals, totaled 49 points, 20 rebounds and five assists in the Wildcats' two games at the state tournament.

Joining him on the team was teammate Cody Dennison (30 points, 10 assists in two games), along with St. Edward's Tom Pritchard (35 points, 20 rebounds in two games) and Frankie Dobbs (15 points in the championship game); and Cincinnati St. Xavier's Walt Gibler (24 points in a loss in the semifinals).
